PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying a special luminescent material which exhibits long-afterglow when stimulated with sun light and to provide a method for using the material. SOLUTION: Provided are a method for purifying a special luminescent material which, when stimulated with sun light, instantaneously exhibits a high luminance and has an afterglow of about several tens hours into microparticles having a particle diameter of 200-500 mesh and a method for using the material which comprises using the special luminescent material for marks for recognizing the positions of electrical source switches, keyholes, emergency exits, etc., at night, night traffic recognition marks such as traffic signals and control signs, safety marks, construction marks, etc., goods, such as clothes, hats and caps, shoes, and sticks, for walking at night, and night sport goods such as ones for volleyball, badminton, tennis, etc.
