PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive compsn. comprising a high mol.wt. polymer, excellent in cohesive force and adhesive force, and capable of being prepared without using an org. solvent. SOLUTION: This acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive compsn. is produced using carbon dioxide as a diluent by radical-polymerizing a monomer contg. an alkyl(meth)acrylate to prepare a pressure sensitive adhesive compsn. contg. an acrylic polymer having a weight average mol.wt. of not less than 400,000. Polymerization pressure is e.g. 5.7-40 MPa, and polymerization temp. is e.g. 20-100 deg.C.
