PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeder to minutely and precisely detect residual quantity in simple constitution. SOLUTION: This sheet feeder is furnished with a sheet placing plate 1 free to place a sheet on it and to revolve in the vertical direction, a feed roller 3 to deliver the sheet on the sheet placing plate 1 by making contact with the top part of the sheet, a revolving lifter 5 to revolve the sheet placing plate 1 upward to the optimum position, a detection means 7 to detect sheet residual quantity in accordance with operating time of the revolving lifter 5 and a transmission means 9 to transmit sheet residual quantity information detected by the detection means 7 to a display means inside or outside. The detection means 7 detects the sheet residual quantity from an electric current value flowing in a motor 5a as it means the sheet residual quantity placed on the sheet placing plate 1 is small that the electric current value flowing in the motor 5a is small and it conversely means the sheet residual quantity placed on the sheet placing plate 1 is large that the electric current value flowing in the motor 5a is large.
