PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a masking tape for coating in such a manner that a coating material is not scattered nor adhered on peripheries of a surface to be coated and at the same time dusts on such peripheries are not scattered due to ejection while the coating material is sprayed when the surfaces of constituting elements (parts), for example, of an automobile or the like are coated without removing from the body, and to provide a masking method using the tape. SOLUTION: A masking tape body 4 is constituted by forming a laminate 3 of synthetic resin on the surface of one side of a belt-shaped craft paper 2. To one edge of the surface of the other side of the belt-shaped craft paper 2, an adhesive tape 5 is pasted in such a manner that a part of the adhesive tape 5 extends outside. In this case, the belt-shaped craft paper is preferably 30-60 g/m2, and further the laminate part 3 made of synthetic resin is polyethylene treated by corona discharge.
