FIBER REINFORCED RESIN COMPOSITION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a fiber reinforced resin composition for producing sliding members, capable of providing a sliding member having high strength and low coefficient of dynamic friction by impregnating a specific quantity of poly(ethylene terephthalate) felt with an unsaturated polyester resin. SOLUTION: The objective composition is prepared by impregnating (B) 8-40 vol.% (preferably 12-30 vol.%) poly(ethylene terephthalate) felt with (A) an unsaturated polyester resin. The ingredient A is e.g. prepared by the condensation esterification of a polybasic acid having an unsaturated group and a polybasic acid having an saturated group with a polyhydric alcohol to form an unsaturated alkyd and by adding a low-viscosity reaction diluent (e.g. styrene) having a double bond and a polymerization inhibitor such as hydroquinone to the unsaturated alkyd. The ingredient B is preferably made of poly(ethylene terephthalate) obtained by the condensation polymerization reaction of an ester or a salt (e.g. chloride) of terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol.
