PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing the subject composition involving such a practice that a polymer is swollen and dissolved in a non-aqueous system in a short time and an oily phase is stably dispersed in the system through keeping the production process viscosity low. SOLUTION: This method for producing the subject composition comprising an oily phase, a clay mineral and a polyhydric alcohol-soluble polymer involves the following practice: a dispersion is prepared by dispersing the polyhydric alcohol-soluble polymer particles in the oily phase followed by mixing and dispersing the above dispersion with a polyhydric alcohol and other ingredient(s) to effect swelling and dissolving the above polymer.
