PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical type heat treatment furnace for executing the heat treatment by passing through a metallic strip, such as cold-rolled steel strip, and a hearth roll applied to this vertical type heat treatment furnace. SOLUTION: A tapered angle in a first tapered part succeeded from a flat part at the center part of the hearth roll to the roll axis, is larger than a tapered angle in a second tapered part further succeeded from the first tapered part to the roll axis, and the length Lc (mm) of the flat part and the length L1 (mm) of the first tapered part are regulated to 0.5 Wmin<=Lc<=Wmin and Wmin<=Lc+2×L1<=Wmax-400. Wherein, Wmin is the min. width (mm) of the metallic strip and Wmax is the max. width (mm) thereof.
