PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a crosslinked polymer excellent in stability of gel, excellent in global environment because of having biodegradability and excellent in water- absorbing ability by reacting polysuccinic imide with a specific compound in a solid phase and/or slurry state. SOLUTION: (A) Polysuccinic imide is reacted with (B) a compound having two or more amino groups (e.g. lysine) in a solid phase and/or slurry state and, as necessary, hydrolysis reaction of the resultant imide ring is carried out to provide the objective crosslinked polymer comprising crosslinked polysuccinic imide. Degree of crosslinking of the crosslinked polymer is preferably 0.01-50 mol%, more preferably 0.1-10 mol%, further preferably 0.5-5 mol% based on the total molar number of recurring unit of the component A. In the solid and/or slurry state, an amount of water and/or organic solvent preferably corresponds to 0.001-1,000 wt.% based on the component A.
