PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive suspension colloid separator easy to handle without need for an additional heater and its operating method by regulating a fluid temp. on the upstream side and that on the downstream side around a glass transition temperature controlling the temps. preferably within±10 deg.C of the transition temp. by the heat generated from a motor. SOLUTION: All the three-way valves 5, 6 and 7 are switched, and a purifying fluid retained in a purification vessel 4 in a fixed amt. is sent to a raw material vessel 1 through a suction pump 3 and a membrane module 2. The fluid flows successively through lines 17, 18, 13, 14, 19 and 11. When passed through the suction pump 3, the fluid is heated by its motor, and the fluid at a relatively high temp. is introduced into the module 2. The pore diameter of the porous membrane held in the module and having a shape memory function is increased as compared with that in the normal operation, and the suspension colloid depositing on and clogging the membrane surface in the normal operation is efficiently released from the membrane surface.
