PRODUCTION OF AROMATIC CARBONATE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing an aromatic carbonate from a dialkyl carbonate and an aromatic hydroxy compound in high efficiency at a low cost. SOLUTION: An aromatic carbonate is produced by reacting a dialkyl carbonate with an aromatic hydroxy compound in the presence of a catalyst and distilling out the by-produced alcohols and by-produced dialkyl carbonates from the reaction system. The above process is carried out by (i) using a Lewis acid expressed by TiX3 or TiX4 (X is a halogen atom, acetoxy group, an alkoxy group or an aryloxy group) as a catalyst and (ii) using the above catalyst in an amount of <=7×10-3 mol in terms of titanium atom based on 1 mol of the aromatic hydroxy compound.
