PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an insect pest repellent capable of effectively repelling insect pests adhering to plants even without killing them. SOLUTION: This insect pest repellent is obtained by spraying an aqueous solution of low concentration chlorine dioxide to coffee grounds after extracting coffee components and maintaining the solution. To 10 kg of the coffee grounds (15% average water content), 2 l of an aqueous solution of chlorine dioxide having 500-700 ppm concentration is scattered and maintained. Plants are protected from adhering of plant louses, etc. by spraying the repellent around stocks of the plants. When the repellent is scattered around the stocks to which plant louses are adhering, the plant louses get away from the plants. When the repellent is mixed with soil after cultivation is over, soundness of phases of microorganisms in the soil and granulation of the soil are accelerated without being caused by harm of tannins included in the coffee grounds.
