PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lessen the thickness in the vertical direction of an escalator device. SOLUTION: Instead of a footboard fitted with a cleat riser, a pallet 9 in a flat plate form is used as a footboard of an escalator device. Guide rollers 16 and 17 for controlling the attitude are installed on both sides of the pallet 9, and the attitude of each pallet 9 is controlled on the basis of the positional relationship of guide rails 19 and 20 which are in engagement with the guide rollers 16 and 17. In the turn-back division of the over-story floor and under- story floor, the pallet advancing direction is inverted without upsetting the pallet 9 upside down.
