PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the island-shaped discharge of coating on a slit, to transfer the coating uniformly to a glass substrate, and to obtain a high quality coating film by improving the wettability of the coating-contact portion of a slit with the coating and forming its outside portion from a water-repellent material. SOLUTION: Stainless steel is used for the mouthpiece 1 of a slit die coater in view of rigidity and precision, a coating 5 is placed in a pressure container 6, compressed nitrogen gas is supplied from piping 7 into the pressure container through a pressure control valve 8, and the coating is supplied to the manifold 11 of the mouthpiece 1 through piping 9 and a filter 10. The coating is spread to the whole mouthpiece 1 in the manifold and after the manifold being filled, is discharged from a slit into the air to be applied on a substrate 3. The wettability of the coating-contact portion of the slit of the mouthpiece 1 is improved, and its outside portion is made water-repellent.
