PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat cycle apparatus for chemical and/or biological reaction, and to provide a method for activating the apparatus. SOLUTION: This heat cycle apparatus 1 is so designed that its main body contains a holding section 3 for holding at least one reaction vessel 5 with its top opened and there is provided a cover 6 for closing the holding section 3; a spring element 18 is disposed on the upper part of this apparatus 1 and presses the cover 6 and the reaction vessel 5 on each other so as to be as a unit and the reaction vessel 5 is directly closed by the cover 6. The present invention is characterized by an electrochemical linear motor 20 so constructed as to press the main body and the reaction vessel on each other at a pressure higher than that produced by the spring; by setting up the linear motor 20, additional compressive force can be exerted independently of the closing action of the cover 6 and compressive force can be varied at discretion and defined accurately as well.
