PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reversible recording medium adapted so that the objective reflected light may be fixed simply by merely controlling the rate of cooling from an isotropic phase and to provide a process for reversibly recording therewith. SOLUTION: Provided is a reversible recording medium composed of a recording layer composed of a thermal recording material comprising a cholesteric liquid crystal compound or a mixture thereof and sandwiched between two substrates at least either of which is transparent and being capable of performing recording by heating the recording layer to the temperature at which a partial or entire region of the recording layer shows an isotropic phase or a cholesteric liquid crystal layer at a high temperature and cooling the recording material to the glass transition temperature of the cholesteric liquid crystal compound or lower or to ordinary temperature at a cooling rate suitably selected according to the desired fixed wavelength and thereby fixing the desired cholesteric reflected light in the cooled region.
