PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing the subject compound in a high yield and purity from inexpensive and easy-to-handle raw materials with a small number of steps, i.e., in one-pot reaction, and without the need of cumbersome post-treatment operations as well. SOLUTION: This method for producing the aimed 5,5'-bi-1H-tetrazole diammonium salt comprises the following process: a hydrogen peroxide solution added with a small amount of a weakly acidic substance is dripped into an aqueous raw material solution containing hydrogen cyanide, sodium azide and a catalytic amount of copper sulfate, the resulting reaction liquor is kept at a pH of 5-6 and then heated to carry out oxidation and cyclization reaction, the reaction product thus formed is further reacted with ammonium chloride or its aqueous solution to form an ammonium salt which is then recovered in the form of sparingly soluble crystal.
