PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer having a cleaning mechanism capable of cleaning, in a short time, particles that may cause clogging in an orifice. SOLUTION: An ink jet printer comprises a print head 60 having a surface 95 and an ink channel 70. The printer further comprises a cleaning mechanism that cleans pollutants 165 from the surface 95 and ink channel 70 at the same time by being coupled with the print head 60. The cleaning mechanism includes a vacuum hood 180 capable of being engaged with the surface 95 in a sealed condition and having a passage 190 which is provided by penetrating the hood and communicates with the surface 95 and a wiper 210 having a plurality of transporting channels which are connected to the vacuum hood 180 and are arranged with respect to the surface 95. The channels communicate with a chute formed in the wiper 210.
