PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a silicon multiple oxide in a non-aqueous solution at a low cost by allowing a silicon alkoxide to react with a metal-oxygen bond- containing organic compound containing a metal such as Ti or Al in the presence of an acid anhydride. SOLUTION: A silicon alkoxide is allowed to react with a metal-oxygen bond-containing organic compound containing at least one selected from Ti, Al, V, Zr, Sn and Cr in the presence of an acid anhydride. The silicon alkoxide is, e.g. ethyl orthosilicate, methyltriethoxysilane or the like. The organic compound is preferably titanium tetraisopropoxide, aluminum triisopropoxide, vanadium oxytriethoxide, zirconium tetraethoxide, tin diacetate, chromium acetylacetonate or the like. The acid anhydride is preferably acetic anhydride, propionic anhydride, butyric anhydride or the like.
