PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road header capable of smoothly moving while excavating in downward and right and left swing directions, preventing wear of a roller cutter and increasing the efficiency of excavation. SOLUTION: This road header comprises a swing boom 20 vertically and horizontally pivotably provided at the end of a base machine 14 and a cutter head 22 provided at the end of the swing boom 20, the cutter 22 head including a rotating shaft 26 attached to the end of the swing boom 20 and rotating about the axis of the swing boom 20, a shank 28 located at right angles to the end of the rotating shaft, a pair of right and left rotary drums 30 rotatably borne on the shank 28, and a plurality of roller cutters 32 borne on the outer peripheries of the rotary drums 30 with predetermined intervals to one another and provided with cutter faces throughout their peripheries. The rotary drums 30 are rotatable about the rotating shaft 26 and also about the shank 28 serving as its own axis.
