An array (20) of electrochemical cells forming an electrochemical apparatus for energy storage and power delivery which comprises a) an end + electrode (12E) and an end - electrode (14E) separated by one or more of bipolar mid-electrodes (13) each of which has a + side (12A) and a - side (14A) which each face a respective + chamber (22C) and - chamber (24C), the + side of each bipolar electrode (13) comprising an electrically conductive substrate having a porous conductive surface (26), the bipolar electrodes (13) being separated from one another by cation exchange membranes (16), b) means to form an intimate mixture of air/oxygen with an electrolyte to produce a dispersion of bubbles in the electrolyte, and c) means to circulate the electrolyte produced in step b) through the + chambers (22C) of the cell array (20). |
