PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an olefin polymerization catalyst having high polymerization activity and giving an olefin (co)polymer having broad molecular weight distribution and excellent moldability and provide a process for the polymerization of an olefin. SOLUTION: The objective olefin polymerization catalyst is composed of (A) a titanium catalyst component containing magnesium, titanium and a halogen as essential components, (B) a transition metal imine compound of the formula and (C) at least one kind of compound selected from (C-1) an organometallic compound, (C-2) an organic aluminumoxy compound and (C-3) a compound reacting with the transition metal imine compound B to form an ion pair. An olefin is polymerized by using the polymerization catalyst.
