PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer case mountable on a front-wheel-drive vehicle having a laterally oriented engine and transfer case, receiving driving torque from a lateral axis and transmitting the driving torque to a rear differential gear on a longitudinal axis, and driven via a center differential gear cage of a front axle. SOLUTION: A transfer case 18 receives driving torque from a lateral axis and transmits the driving torque to a rear differential gear on a longitudinal axis. The transfer case 18 is driven via a center differential gear cage of a front axle. A driving chain 84 is positioned behind a front auxiliary axle by a sprocket and supplies power to an adjustable clutch 100 or viscous clutch parallel to the front auxiliary axle. Output from the clutch is transmitted to a bevel gear set and the bevel gear set drives a rear propeller shaft, the rear differential gear, and a rear axle.
