PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a high bulk density ganular detergent composition that is applicable for production of a high bulk density granular detergent composition having a wide range of composition and enables production thereof with ease from a surfactant-containing slurry by means of a single apparatus for spray-drying and granulating. SOLUTION: A tower-shaped apparatus 3 is provided with a construction in which a hot air flows upwardly from the lower part of the tower-shaped apparatus while a fluidized bed is formed in the lower part thereof. A surfactant-containing slurry is sprayed within the apparatus to form fine particles, and the slurry is continuously sprayed onto fine particles while the formed fine particles are fluidized within the apparatus to effect the granulation of the fine particles as a core particle, whereby the high bulk density granulates containing a surfactant, which has an average particle size of 200-1,500μm and a bulk density of not smaller than 600 g/L, are produced.
