The ray of ionizing radiation (1) may pass through a hole in the housing of the apparatus, and passes along the axis of a helical coil (3), before impacting on a glass screen (2). The screen may be coated with selenium, gallium arsenide or indium antimonide. The terminals of the coil are connected to a transistorized amplification circuit (4), connected to a measuring display system (5).
