A video/audio data recording / reproducing apparatus having an interface circuit for accepting a control command to generate an AV file and a hard disk control circuit and capable of recording data repetitively according to the AV file. During repetitive recording, the frame number of the first frame of the AV file is stored as an offset value in an AV file area management table. Thereby the positions of the frames are made to correspond to the respective frame numbers after the start of the repetitive recording and managed. In even the repetitive recording mode, the recording positions and reproducing positions are so displayed as to increase with time.
