The invention relates to a device for discharging a flowable material which is contained in a container (13) using a motor-driven discharging device. The a im of the invention is to provide a means of guaranteeing that the container (1 3) is placed correctly in the device, that the material can still be used and/o r that the speed at which the material is discharged is selected according to the viscosity or other characteristics of the material. To this end, the container (13) is provided with a marking which is stored in a transponder (25) that is mounted on a front container cap (16), for example. When the container (13) is correctly positioned in the discharging device the transponder (25) co-operates with an interrogator unit (26) which is located in a front wall of the container.
