A method and apparatus for providing information to be used for numerical control of a machine tool. A database is prepared for storing numerical control information modified or edited by an operator or contents of modification as machining know-how for technicians. The database is useful for programmers to retrieve appropriate techniques when they attempt to prepare new numerical control information. The know-how includes machining conditions that operators can use. The database is updated every time a process of machining is carried out.
