The invention relates to an agent for the gene therapeutic inhibition of tissue regeneration, especially the inhibition of tissue proliferation and the decrease of exuberant healing processes. The invention is preferably used for inhibiting restenosis after balloon angioplasty. The essential item of the invention is an agent consisting of a recombinant vector which contains a sequence that codes for a fusion protein from the c-myb-DNA-binding domain and from a transcription repressor. In a preferred embodiment, an engrailed gene is used as a transcription repressor.
