A device for determining the injection pattern or image of a fuel-injection jet or nozzle (1) includes a first and second optical (light) beam (231,241), generator (23,24), a device (25,26) for detecting the light beams (231,241) and for providing an output signal during interruption of one of the light-beams, a device (21,22) for turning the fuel jet (1) and the two light beams relative to one another, and a device (28) for ascertaining the position of a fuel injection jet (1) relative to the position of the light-beams, and for outputting a position signal. An evaluation device (30), together with the light-beam detection device (25,26) and the position detector (28) for the injection jet (1) relative to the light-beams, determines the spray position of one injection spray (13) of the jet (1) from one position of the jet during interruption of the first light beam (231) by the injection spray (13), and one position of the jet (1) during interruption of the second light beam (241) by the injection spray (13) and the mutual positions of the first and second light-beams (231,241).
