The piezoelectric resonator exhibits a thickness expansion vibration, with a vibration damping region at each end of the resonance region, provided by a rectangular piezoelectric body (2) having energizing electrodes (3,4) on its opposite sides and at least one inner electrode layer (6) within the piezoelectric body, the resonance region provided where the energizing electrodes and the inner electrode overlap. The piezoelectric body has a ratio in the range 9 to 14 between its length and the spacing (D) between the energizing electrodes and the inner electrode.
