The device has a regulator, and a cable (7) sliding in a sleeve (8) and connected to regulator and e.g. air control flap. The sleeve is fastened to a fixed part (9) next to the cable ends. In a first section, the connection is via first connector parts (17) permitting a sliding movement in longitudinal direction, when a force exceeding a set value is applied. The value is lower than the longitudinal force, which has to be applied to the cable to cause it to buckle, if movement of the second end is prevented. The value is between 6 and 10N, pref. approx. 10N.
