<p>Preactivated unsupported catalysts are disclosed whereby an unsupported olefin polymerization catalyst precursor is contacted with an activator, or co-catalyst, to form a preactivated unsupported catalyst. The preactivated unsupported catalyst is useful in a method of polymerizing an olefin monomer by adding it, in solution or slurry, to a gas phase polymerization reactor together with one or more olefins to form a polymer, copolymer, terpolymer, or the like. The use of these preactivated unsupported catalysts avoids the need to use substantial amounts of hydrocarbon solvents, and avoids the need to use toxic aromatic or chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents.</p> |
