MAGNETIC HEAD AND MAGNETIC DISK UNIT AND WORKING METHOD THEREFOR

It is necessary for a magnetic disk unit mounted thereon with a thin-film magnetic head of a shallow-groove, two-stage-step, negative-pressure-slider structure to control flat a crown amount on the floating surface of the magnetic head, in order to reduce an effective floating amount and ensure reliability on contact of the disk with the magnetic head. A crown amount of a magnetic head is produced by the difference in residual strain by machining between the floating surface and the rear surface; the larger the difference, the larger a crown amount. Therefore, a crown amount can be made flat by polishing the floating surface and the rear surface of a magnetic head under the same condition to produce almost the same residual on the two surfaces.
