A method and abstract detecting earth leakage from a battery (1). The voltage across the battery is measured. The ends of the battery are then earthed in turn and the potential of the unearthed end of the battery with respect to earth is measured. The three measurements are then compared and an earth fault is indicated if all three are not equal.
