WATER-SWELLABLE HOT-MELT-TYPE ADHESIVE

The invention relates to water-swellable hot-melt-type adhesives based on a tackifying resin, a water-dispersible EVA wax, an ethylene acrylic-acid este r copolymer, a water-soluble homopolymer or copolymer, and a superabsorber polymer powder with an average particle size of less than 80 .mu.m. The inventive water-swellable hot-melt-type adhesive comprises a noticeably improved swelling behavior compared to that of the prior art. In addition, t he swelling agent is distributed in the matrix in an essentially homogeneous manner. Hot-melt-type adhesives of this type are suited for ensuring the longitudinal water tightness in modern cable constructions, and as water- swellable joint sealing materials used in the construction industry for the protection or reconstruction of buildings. The inventive hot-melt-type adhesives are also suited for producing absorbent textile materials used the area of hygiene.
