The arrangement has an occupant protection unit arranged near an occupant, a number of connection units (1) in the vehicle for detecting information wrt. the occupants and vehicle loading and a central control unit. The control unit communicates with the connection unit(s) via a single communications line (13) in intervals of a defined cycle to collect information and determines the actuation conditions for the protection unit and to control actuation. The control unit communicates with at least one connection unit that detects higher priority information in intervals of the cycle and conducts communications with the other units detecting lower priority information successively in intervals of the cycle.
