To remove coatings on threaded bolts(10) a hollow annular or hollow cylindrical form cleaning head(14) is used, its internal diameter larger than the external diameter of the bolt to be cleaned. The cleaning head has air jets(16) orientated centrally to the threaded bolt and connected to a compressed air source(18). Revolving brushes may be installed on the cleaning head with their rotational axis parallel or perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the threaded bolt. An Independent claim is included for a procedure for the removal of coatings on threaded bolts entailing directing onto them compressed air jets from a hollow annular or hollow cylindrical cleaning head.
