PURPOSE: A circuit for detecting a type of a battery in a mobile communication terminal is provided to make the utmost use of battery performance, by measuring an identification current of the battery to detect the battery type according to a capacity of the battery, and then applying the charge and discharge curves suitable for the detected battery type to the charge and discharge operations. CONSTITUTION: A battery(1) generates a power supply for providing a voltage to each part of the terminal. A battery detector(2) measures the output voltage generated at the battery(1) via a pull-up resistor in order to detect the identification current which appears differently at each battery, and thereby detecting the battery type. A memory(3) stores the data of the charge and discharge curves corresponding to each battery. A controller(4) controls the operations of the terminal, and applies the corresponding data of the charge and discharge curves of the data stored in the memory(3), to the detected type of the battery.
