888,338. Rolling profile sections. MOELLER & NEUMANN G.m.b.H. July 27. 1959 [Aug. 8, 1958], No. 25678/59. Class 83 (4). In a universal stand with horizontal and vertical rolls mounted in one plane for rolling I-profiles and the like, chocks 11, 12, Fig .3, for the vertical rolls 10, 11 are adjustably guided in a closed supporting frame 16 mounted between housing members 1, 2, and within the confines of the width of the housing columns the housing members 1, 2 being connected by prestressed tie-rods 3 and the side-members of the supporting frame being subjected to tensile stress. The construction results in a smaller housing with a narrower window width than hitherto. After assembly of the stand, to apply the prestress the tie-rods 3 are extended by hydraulic pressure acting on a transmitting stem 28 which bears on a closure 30 of the tie-rod tube. The horizontal rolls 4, 5 are adjusted by spindles 8, 9 respectively through worm-gearing operated by motors situated at the top of the stand. The same motors rotate telescopic inclined shafts 34, Fig. 2 (not shown), to adjust the vertical rolls 10, 11 through worm gearing and spindles 14, 15. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), a separate spacer may be inserted within the supporting frame at each tie position so that the supporting frame is free to move in a horizontal plane to equalize rolling pressure made unequal by varying flange thickness during rolling. The supporting frame is returned by prestressed springs to a neutral position. Rigid fixing may however be retained by means of screws which bridge the springs. The stand may be converted to a two-high stand by the removal of the supporting frame and the substitution of smaller spacing members. Specification 9187/10 and German Specifications 629,097 and 1,031,248 are referred to. |
