PURPOSE: An apparatus for notifying the exchange time of a battery in a remote controller is provided to allow a user to recognize the exchange time thereof easily, by controlling a state of lighting in a mode display unit which informs an operation mode selected currently in a television(TV) connected to a video tape recorder(VTR) and a cable. CONSTITUTION: An operation mode display unit(10) displays the operation modes of the TV, VTR and cable. A part(20) searches the functions which can be performed currently in a remote controller(REMOCON IC), and thereby recognizes the operation mode that is selected currently, and outputs a control signal to the operation mode display unit(10) so that the current operation mode can be displayed. A drive voltage detector(30) detects a level of a drive voltage(Vcc) supplied to the remote controller(REMOCON IC), and compares the drive voltage(Vcc) with a reference voltage. The drive voltage detector(30) reports to the operation mode display unit(10) that the drive voltage(Vcc) is less than the reference voltage, so that this state can be displayed by the display unit(10). A control signal output part(40) outputs an infrared signal for controlling the operation of the TV.
