PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling transmission/reception of image compression data in ATM terminals is provided to differentiate the amount of transmitted data from the amount of received data. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling transmission/reception of image compression data in ATM terminals includes a REN generator, and an ATM data processor(50). The REN generator generates a control signal for the image compression data when a transmitted image and a received image are transferred in a different manner when a video conference is carried out in an ATM/AAL layer. The ATM data processor(50) stores the received data by the control signal for the image compression data from the REN generator.
