PURPOSE: A process for producing cis-1,4-polybutadiene is provided which does not reduce polymerization activity and can control a molecular weight freely. CONSTITUTION: A cis-1,4-polybutadiene is prepared by polymerizing butadiene in an aliphatic hydrocarbon such as n-butane, n-pentane with a catalyst and 0.1-10 pts.wt. (based on the butadiene of 100 pts.wt.) of an olefin compound as a molecular weight control agent such as 1-butane, cis-2-butane at 0-100°C. The catalyst is a composition comprising three components of: (1) nickel organic acid salt or organic complex such as nickel naphthenate, nickel octanoate, (2) boron halide or boron trifluoride complex of ethers or metal halide wherein the metal is IVA group or VA group of the periodic table such as boron trifluoride, boron trifluoride etherate, titanium tetrachloride, (3) organic metal compound wherein the metal is I, II, III or IVB group of the periodic table such as butyl lithium, diethyl zinc, triethyl aluminium.
