PURPOSE: A method for controlling a position and an apparatus for the same substantially relates to a method for storing the data which may be adapted to high precision positioning control for systematically connecting a machine and an instrument, provides materials for sensing/detecting and deciding the information of an object, and may be purposed to provide the position decision path and information in response to external input. The method and the apparatus is provided to detect the relative motion and position of a head of machine of measuring object to an incremental and an absolute shaft encoders and then to operate and output CAM data corresponding to a value of difference between a set position and a current position, so that the load for driving a relay, a motor of an electronic valve, electronic clutch, and the like, the display load for a pilot lamp or a digital display, and the like may be performed advantageously with a high speed, a high precision, and extendability. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling a position comprises a device for detecting and transforming a position, which detects the moving distance of a machine position, transforms a predetermined signal, and then supplies the signal selectively to an address generating circuit(7) or a second multiplexor(8) in CAM data generating section by controlling a microprocessor(12) and a peripheral hardware; a microprocessor(12) which stores CAD data for detecting and certifying whether operates or not in a set position and also controls the correction, storing, and generating of the CAM data in a CAM data generating section for working a workpiece; and a CAM data generating section which corrects and stores the CAM data correspondingly to the distance data of the position detecting and transforming device based on the CAD data of the microprocessor(12) and also outputs in parallel the CAM data generated from the output end(11) of CAM.
