PURPOSE: A method for producing methane gas from organic waste in particular garbage and apparatus thereof are provided which can produce methane gas by treating garbage effectively without generating secondary pollution. CONSTITUTION: A method comprises (1) storing food waste on the basis of a processing capacity of 2m¬3/day, (2) separating foreign material such as vinyl, steel or the like from the organic waste, (3) pulverizing the organic waste, (4) digesting the pulverized organic waste in a first digestion tank, (5) generating methane gas, (6) storing slurry in a waste liquid storing tank, (7) drying waste liquid using heat of generated methane gas in a dryer, (8) introducing vapor which is generated during the drying process to the digestion tank to maintain at a temperature of 32 to 35°C, and (9) storing generated methane gas in storage tank. And the apparatus is characterized in that the digestion tank is divided into three parts, namely a first digestion tank (10), a second digestion tank (13) and a waste liquid storage tank, wherein A wall(1-1) and a B wall (11-2) are installed in the direction of the lower part of the tank from the upper part, a path (12) for passing organic material having a height of 82cm is placed at the bottom part of the tank, and the bottom part between the first tank and the waste liquid storage tank inclines almost 8 degrees to control the digestion time and amount according to the amount of influent organic matter.
