PURPOSE: A device is provided to automatically adjust an illuminating distance depending on lighting environment containing light intensity from the opposite vehicles while turning on a headlight. CONSTITUTION: A nearer the opposite vehicle approaches, the stronger around light intensity is. Then the resistance valve of a CdS cell(21) is getting smaller so that the size of a voltage signal of an environment check unit(20) lowers from a point A of contact. Also, the check unit outputs a certain voltage signal to a controller(30). The controller compares the signal size with the illuminating distance data value pre-stored in a memory and decides the illuminating distance of a headlight, and then outputs an adjusting signal. Finally, the adjusting signal is input into an output unit(40) and the input unit automatically adjusts the illuminating distance of the headlight whenever the size of the adjusting signal is changed.
