PURPOSE: An apparatus for image data retransmission of moving picture encoding system and a method thereof are provided to store an index of an image data to be retransmitted and image data. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for image data retransmission of moving picture encoding system includes an index storage(210), a retransmission data storage, and a retransmission controller(230). The apparatus transmits encoded image data to a receiving terminal. The index storage(210) stores an index of image data to be retransmitted to the receiving terminal. The retransmission data storage stores an image data to be retransmitted of the encoded image data. The retransmission controller(230) reads the index from the index storage(210) by scanning the index storage(210) and retransmits the image data corresponding to the index to the receiving terminal.
