PURPOSE: An apparatus for notifying the exchange time of a battery in a remote controller is provided to allow a user to recognize the exchange time thereof easily, by displaying a message for requesting the exchange of the battery on a screen if a searching function by the remote controller is performed on a television when a voltage of the battery is lowered below a reference voltage. CONSTITUTION: A drive voltage detector(10) in a remote controller(REMOCON IC) detects a level of a drive voltage(Vcc) applied from the battery to the remote controller(REMOCON IC), and compares the drive voltage(Vcc) with a reference voltage. A wave generator(20) inserts a certain type of wave to a signal which is generated by a button selected via a key matrix in order to perform a special function when the drive voltage(Vcc) is less than the reference voltage. The wave generator(20) further outputs the signal including the certain type of the wave, so that a message for requesting a replace of the battery can be displayed on the television. A control signal output part(30) converts the signal from the wave generator(20) to an infrared signal, and remotely outputs the infrared signal to the television.
