PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for displaying a communication link setup status through a data link layer protocol of a digital mobile terminal are provided to display a setup status of a data communication link. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for displaying a communication link setup status through a data link layer protocol of a digital mobile terminal comprise a serial port controller(210), an LAPB initialization process portion(220), a UA(Unnumbered Acknowledge) delay portion(230), an LAPB link setup portion(240), and a user interface process portion(260). The serial port controller decodes input data to a data link layer protocol frame. The LAPB initialization process portion initializes the data link layer protocol drive and transmits an SABM frame. The UA delay portion delays an UA frame. The LAPB link setup portion sets up a terminal and a communication link. The user interface process portion controls the predetermined data communication link setup status display information.
