PURPOSE: A control device and a method of playback speed doubling of an optical disc is provided to decelerate selectively only a vibrating optical disc needing deceleration by deciding the sort of a placed disc. CONSTITUTION: Playback speed doubling is controlled by deciding vibration or eccentricity of an optical disc to be played back on the basis of a tracking error signal. The decision of the existence of vibration or eccentricity is performed by using a signal the same as the tracking error signal in a playback speed doubling control device of an optical disc. Only when the placed optical disc is a vibrating disc not an eccentric disc, playback speed is decelerated. In an eccentric disc not needing deceleration, playback efficiency is improved by normal playback.
