PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for decoding a video cassette recorder are provided to constantly maintain the data transmitting rate regardless an input format by performing the down conversion according to the input format. CONSTITUTION: A decoding apparatus has a variable length decoder for outputting codes corresponding to DCT coefficient by decoding the codes. An inverse quantizer(202) performs a down conversion according to the DCT coefficient and the input format. The DCT coefficient is output by a buffer portion(204). The buffer portion(204) is controlled by a buffer controller(403). The buffer portion(204) carries out a double buffering according to the input format. The decoding apparatus also has a DCT section for transforming the DCT coefficient output from the buffer portion(204). |
